Last house on the left(2009) - Violence
Starters, I think the first scene should be entirely cut, it doesn't really move the story along, is violent, and we don't even see all the main characters in it. I think we should take out the scenes of pot smoking, they don't really add anything to the story, and we don't want to show drugs as being ok. Cursing after the crash and blood on his face is ok, I think we should cut the blood splattering on the window however. The beating after the crash is a bit too much, and when the kill mary's friend, We should only show reaction scenes in this beating. The rape scene lasts too long, and is too graphic, we should cut the lines where he tells his son thats how you become a man, as well as ones that imply its a good thing and that he is bad for doing so. we cant cut the rape scene, because I think the scene with her parents is needed to show how one should react. Mary getting shoti think should be soon, as well as the medical procedure. people should know what happens when someone gets shot. the hand in the disposal, and hammer to head should be cut as well as the fire poker scene. cut the scene with the microwave at the end as well.

i agree with most of this, the microwave scene was sweet but unnecessary. the rape scene was crazy and uncomfortably long. i think you could cut that all together because the mom realizes who the bad guys are from that kid leaving the little golden locket around the coffee mug. i dont think the first scene needs to be cut because it sets up the rest of the story, that is these people are on the loose. some of the violence could be toned down a little bit, maybe the violence could be implied. gunshot wound to the head with the splatter doesnt have to be shown, hand in the garbage disposal is pretty intense and hammer to the head doesnt need to be shown.
ReplyDeletealso i dont think you need to show the knife actually going into the girl. also i think the nudity should be cut all together. in terms of the weed smoking, i feel like it could go either way, its not essential to the story at all but its not totally offensive and unnecessary, it is after all they go to that dudes motel in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI agree with CJ in keeping the first scene, however i do think toning it down a little would help the movie fit into PG-13 category. Maybe just having sady's car running into the cop car should be enough to get the point across that they were killed... shooting someone point black without even flinching is definelty not sending the right message. Even showing the cop pictures of his girls before Krug kills him with his bare hands is not ok becuase it is very heartless. Paige also gets beaten up pretty badly in the movie... She gets her head knocked in with the pedestal in the motel scene and then gets stabbed multiple times. The extreme and consistent beating up of Paige and Mary should be removed. Similalar to what CJ said... impling that there was violence but not really showing a whole lot would do the job.
ReplyDeleteThe rape scene definitely needs to be toned down and removing the phrase of that's how you become a man. I think it is a good thing Mary and Paige had called the "bad: people pathetic... sends a good message that people who take in this activities are weak.
I dont think that sady should have fought her last battle half naked.. her breasts everywhere throughout the scene.. and then being shot in the head with all the blood on the white tile. Simply showing that hole in the head works... and maybe get her a shirt.. or that she dies in her sleep... How the uncle gets killed like CJ and Jared said is intense and even a little extreme... he gets stabbed in the heart area... beaten up by both parents, his hand gets shredded, almost drowned, and finally a hammer to the head...with blood everywhere. The way that Krug dies is also unnecessary..maybe leaving it open ended making the audience question if he dies or not could still be just as effective.
I think I agree for the most part with what everyone said. I do think it is important to remember that it is a horror movie hence all of the abuse and violence. I think that it could be toned down somewhat or maybe just not be as graphic (going more along the lines of how the movie from the 70's was in terms of not showing as much).
ReplyDeleteI do think that the first scene is essential to the story so it could be kept. Maybe just not showing as much ... for example they don't need to show Krug actually killing the cop. They could show just his face and have the sound effects and have the sam effect.
Personally I don't think the weed is that bad. They don't actually call it weed specifically (if I am recalling it right they kind of beat around the bush and use alternative code names). And when smoking they never show them doing anything like making a joint or any of that nature. It basically just looks like they are smoking cigarettes. I don't think it needs to be removed and I think the conversation they had (i.e. about her brother dying etc) seems to be important to the story line.
I agree with Nadia on Sadie fighting naked in the ending. That was completely unnecessary. It was nudity to just have nudity. They also didn't need to show the bullet going into her face.
Most of the visual aspects of the violence need to be toned down a bit. Like everyone said the whole uncle scene and the microwave scenes were just ridiculous. I was shocked and I have seen quite a number of awful horror movies. For kids to see all the exploding heads, chopping up of hands, etc I think it just very dangerous. I know that video games show similar things now adays but I do not think it should be in a PG-13 movie.
I agree, video games a little different just because of the fact that video games are not real, however when they see it in a movie, it is more believable because it is not animated like that in a video game.
